County Reserve League Boroughs penultimate game resulted in a well deserved win, with a few old faces helping out due to un-availability of a few players, coupled with PORTERS well taken hat trick, the teams day in the sun was well worth the trip and thoroughly deserved against a game but ultimately well beaten Swanage side. With players away due to Easter and injuries, the side resorted to signing a few old hands to help out, messers WHITE, ATKINS & CUFF played their part and did not let the side down. Swanage started the better as they looked to take the game to Borough, however PORTER scuffed a chance in the 8th minute when put clean through by HOPKINS excellent through ball. Moments later and Borough had a 3 on 1 situation but alas the wrong decision was made as a good chance went begging!! On 13 minutes the home keeper produced a very good save from DE BEN to block his effort. The deadlock was finally broken in the 19th minute when, following good play from HOPKINS & MADGEWICK, the latters cross was headed home by PORTER 0-1. Swanage tried to get back into the game and forced a couple of shots, Borough in return were to often finding themselves given off side by the over zealous linesman !!! However even he couldnt deny the second goal after RUDD shot home in the 27th minute 0-2. Chances were continually being created however it was in the 44th minute when PORTER added the 3rd with a superb run, beating defenders in his way before drawing the keeper and slotting home. 0-3. HALF TIME Swanage T&H 0, POOLE BOROUGH RES 3. Borough were sent out in the second half with the orders for more of the same and so it proved as they searched for further goals and PORTER duly obliged in the 49th minute with his 3rd and Boroughs 4th with another well taken goal after good work from MOLYNEAUX 0-4. Borough continued to press and further chances went begging from WOLDON & PORTER in the 53rd, 55th, 58th & 61st minutes. With just over 20 minutes to play Giles brought on ATKINS & SHEAR upfront, Swanage battled vainly in search of a consolation but the Borough defence continued to hold firm, whilst pushing forward in search of a 5th, this duly arrived in the 81st minute when SHEAR popped up in the box to slot home a cross from MOLYNEAUX 0-5. The only blemishes on the day for Borough arrived in the last 5 minutes as Swanage grabbed two consolation goals, the first in the 85th minute when the Borough defence appealed for an off-side that was not given, DOMINEY came out to block however the Swanage forward knocked home 1-5. Minutes later and Swanage got their second following a long ball that was dispatched over the Borough keeper 2-5. No more chances were created as the game drew to its end. GILES & SEAN were very pleased with the manner in which the result was achieved and paid tribute to the whole squad on the day who at times played some excellent football, the win secured at least the runners up spot in the league, however there is still an outside chance of winning the league but the ball is firmly in Sherbornes court to lose the title, all in all though, to have played 23 games and have only 1 league defeat with 1 to play is a great testament to the lads efforts over the whole season. |
